This is a classic 1974 Guild acoustic that's needs a total restoration. There are numerous cracks on the body
(crack pics)
(crack repair details)
.
The biggest problem with the guitar is that it was dropped and the neck came loose at the heal joint. I won't know if the heal or head block are cracked or damaged till I remove the neck.
Normally this would be done by inserting steam into the joint but because I have to replace the badly worn fingerboard (pic) I can do it using a hot knife and my neck removal jig.
I will be replacing the fretboard with a rosewood fretboard to emulate the original. Unfortunately the original fret board was Brazilian Rosewood, a rare and expensive wood these days. I will try to find the closest alternative.
Of course a new fretboard requires a fret job as well. I use a template I bought from Stewart MacDonald along with my table saw and a specially honed sawblade.
The binding is also loose. I will try to reglue it. If I can't save it I'll have to replace it.
When I am done with the repairs I am going to refinish the back, neck and sides refinish
. The top I am going to touch up and try to leave the old finish intact.
